Sue
Stemrau's Story
Sue is the
head coach of women's basketball at Florida State University. Years ago,
she battled an ED that was all consuming and affected every area of her
life. As a college athlete, Sue was all too familiar with the pressures
related to perfection, performance, and meeting the high standards of
success, especially those she placed on herself.
"It
wasn't until I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior that I began to understand
that God is God over every area of our lives. There were underlying issues
in my life that expressed themselves in inappropriate ways at inappropriate
times. I thank God that He healed my damaged emotions and taught me to
renew my mind through His Word and understand my new identity in Him."
We can only
overcome life's problems when we begin to identify who we are in Christ
Jesus, rather than continuing to identify with our problem, whatever it
may be.

Lisa Ryan's
Story
Lisa is co-host
of the 700 Club and former Miss California. She struggled for years with
an ED before she experienced real freedom and healing in Christ. The divorce
of her parents and loss of her brother had created deep wounds, and so
she turned to controlling her image. The need to have a perfect Christian
image led to a facade, while in reality she felt out of control, angry
and insecure.
She constantly
compared herself to others and evaluated how she measured up. It wasn't
until she gazed at Christ and His word, that she began to see and understand
who she really was. She learned to be the best she could be with the gifts
and attributes God had given her. By accepting her identity in Christ,
Lisa no longer had to look, sound or act like anyone else. She could be
Lisa!

Amy's
Story
Amy
came to Mercy
Ministries
completely broken. She had allowed an ED to destroy her life, to the point
that she couldn't even function anymore. The doctors were surprised she
was still alive. "Basically I was preparing myself for death, and
I believed that if God was going to help me, He was going to have to do
something drastic. God brought Mercy into her life. He took my brokenness
and made me whole. It has been a long, hard road. It has been the most
difficult year of my life, but it has also been the best year I've ever
had. I just thank God for making me into a beautiful woman - a beautiful
woman of God! I no longer have to serve anything but Him" she said.
